Will Belyea earns Roadrunner Taxi male athlete of the week

Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations during the week to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 298 past athlete of the week winners. 

This week, we had 12 Rowell’s Garage male athlete of the week nominations. Will Belyea he a big game offensively and defensively to help the Houlton football team start the season 2-0. Belyea joins Kyle Bouchard (4) (1-3-16), Jimmy Fitzpatrick (10-14-12), Kolleen Bouchard (19) (3-5-18), Natalie Hill (9-27-15), Seth Holston- (9-11-16), Tessa Solomon (11-6-17), and Keegan Gentle (3) (1-21-19) as student/athletes from Houlton high school that have earned athlete of the week honors.

Roadrunner Taxi male athlete of the week

  • Will Belyea- Houlton – football- the quarterback rushed for 179 yards and three touchdowns on 7 carries and also had five tackles and an interception on defense in 42-6 win over Old Town. 

Runner up

  • Riley Geyer- Cony- football- threw for 156 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 146 yards and one touchdown in 35-7 win over Skowhegan.

Other nominations

  • Caleb Solomon – Houlton- football- the sophomore wide receiver had 111 yards and three touchdowns on five receptions in 40-0 win over Mt. View. 
  • Michael Whang- Foxcroft- soccer- had four goals in 15-2 win over Dexter.
  • Shadane Hamilton- Foxcroft- soccer – had three goals and two assists in 15-2 win over Dexter. 
  • Alexis Fidalgo- Foxcroft- soccer – had three goals in 15-2 win over Dexter. 
  • Gavin Carr- Brewer- soccer- scored four goals in 4-2 win over Winslow.
  • Drew Severson – Medomak Valley- football rushed 18 times for 82 yards and three touchdowns in two quarters in 32-22 win over Belfast.
  • Isack Cunningham – Belfast- football- 15 carries 82 yards and three touchdowns in a 32-22 loss to Medomak Valley.
  • Ryan Friend – MCI- football- ran for three touchdowns and passed for one in 47-8 win over MDI.
  • Colby Pomeroy- Winslow- football- had three touchdowns in 62-0 win over Nokomis.
  • Houlton defense – football – gave up only six points in the two games this week. In the two they gave up a total of 186 yards, had three interceptions, four forced fumble, three fumble recoveries, an interception return for a touchdown and a punt return for a touchdown this week.
