Alisyn Alley powers Stearns to win over Central

CORINTH- Championships can’t be won in December, but statements can be made. Stearns did just that on Wednesday night when they outscored Central 29-4 in the second half and rolled to a 61-23 Class C North girls basketball win at Central High School.

Alisyn Alley and Katherine Alley combined for 11 first quarter points to help Stearns jump out to a 17-9 lead after the first eight minutes. Stearns ended the quarter on a 10-2 run. The Minutemen extended the run to 14-2 when they scored the first two baskets of the second quarter.

Central went on an 8-2 run to cut the deficit to 23-17. Stearns followed that up by outscoring Central 9-2 and taking a 32-19 advantage to intermission.

The Minutemen took control with shutdown defense and dominating rebounding in the second half. Stearns out rebounded Central 47-21, including 27-11 in the second half.

Alisyn Alley filled up the stat sheet. The sophomore recorded 19 points, 15 rebounds, five assists, five steals, and two blocks. Katherine Alley and Annalys Robinson also finished in double figures with 11 and 10 points respectively. Robinson also pulled down eight rebounds.

Katie Kenyon and Kasey Kenyon put in six points each. Kasey Kenyon also had five rebounds and four blocks. Maisey Girsa and Mayayla Anderson chipped in with four points each, while Kelley Farber made one free throw. Stearns (3-0) defeated defending regional champs PVHS 43-21 on Monday night. Stearns will play at Mattanawcook on Friday.

Emilee Cohen led the Red Devils with 14 points. Abi Allen recorded four points, six rebounds, and four steals. Gabrielle Poulin and Rylee Speed had two points each, while Ali Shaw made one free throw. Central (2-1) is next scheduled to play on Monday when they travel to Milo for a game against Penquis.
