Peyton Grant leads Dexter past Central

DEXTER– Peyton Grant scored 20 points to lead the Dexter Tigers to a 44-32 win over Central on Saturday afternoon at Ed Guiski Gymnasium.

The Tigers jumped out to a 10-0 lead and had a 19-5 advantage at the end of the first quarter. Grant scored 14 points, including 4 three pointers in the first eight minutes of play.

The Tigers took their biggest lead of the game when Cheyenne Beem made one free throw early in the second quarter to make it 20-5. The Red Devils went on a 14-2 run to cut the deficit to 22-19. Grant made a deep three pointer with 1:20 left in the half to make it 25-19. The Tigers held a 27-21 halftime advantage.

Elizabeth Kinney made a basket and two free throws to help Dexter expand the lead to 31-21 early in the second half. Central went on a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to 31-28. The Tigers looked like they were in trouble with Grant, Kinney, and Beem all having four fouls mid way through the third quarter. Grant sunk a three pointer to give Dexter a 34-28 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Dexter secured the win by outscoring Central 10-4 in the final quarter, including shooting 6-8 from the free throw line down the stretch.

Emilee Cohen led the Red Devils with 13 points, eight rebounds, and two assists. Abi Allen recorded 12 points, six rebounds, and three steals. Ali Shaw had three points, six rebounds, and two steals. Erica Noonan and Gabrielle Poulin added two points each. Central (8-3) will play at Stearns on Tuesday night.

Grant made six three pointers and had three rebounds and three assists. Kinney had eight points and three rebounds. Cloe Mountain had seven points (4 in the fourth quarter) and three assists. Jozylnn Paige came off the bench to score five points, including three in the fourth quarter. Beem recorded four points, eight rebounds, and two steals. Abby Wakefield had nine rebounds and four steals. Dexter (7-4) will host Schenck on Monday at 5:30 PM.

Central shot 11-23 from the free throw line, while Dexter shot 10-16. Central out rebounded Dexter 29-26.
