Six different Black Bears net goals in win over Vermont

Mitch Fossier scored a goal and had three assists, and five others had a goal each as the #17 Maine Black Bears rolled past the Vermont Catamounts 6-1 in Hockey East men’s action at the Alfond Arena Friday night.

Vermont, who is now 3-22-5 and winless in Hockey East at 0-17-3, scored the first goal to grab the lead. Bryce Misley scored at 14:49 of the first period to make it 1-0. Adam Dawe tied it at 19:09 with a powerplay goal, and then with two seconds left in a five minute major powerplay Eduards Tralmaks netted the game winner at 4:59 of the second. Ryan Smith made it 3-1 at 6:29, and then Jack Quinlivan, Fossier, and Patrick Shea would score third period goals to help one of nations hottest teams continue their torrid play. Quinlivans goal was his first of the season.

Jeremy Swayman made 23 saves in net in the Maine win. Tim Doherty had three assists on the night, while Tralmaks and Shea also added an assist each to go along with their one goal. Stephanos Lekkas made 34 saves in the loss for Vermont. Maine was 2-4 on the powerplay, while Vermont was 0-5. The Black Bears improve to 17-10-4, 11-8-2 in Hockey East. They are now 12-1-2 at home this season, and have gone 8-2-1 in the second half so far. The teams finish off their two game series Saturday evening at 4:30 p.m.
