Josh McGillicuddy named male athlete of the week

Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. If you want to sponsor the female or male athlete of the week email Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. Use that same email to send your nominations in during the week. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 322 past athlete of the week winners.

This week, we had four Rowell’s Garage male athlete of the week nominations. Josh McGillicuddy had five goals and three assists in leading Hodgdon to a 3-0 week. McGillicuddy is the first student/athlete from Hodgdon high school to be named athlete of the week.

Male athlete of the week

  • Josh McGillicuddy- Hodgdon- soccer-Had two assists in a 5-1 win over Katahdin, a hat trick in 3-1 win over Houlton, and two goals and one assist in 12-0 win over East Grand.

Runner up

  • Myles Brown- Deer Isle-Stonington – scored three goals in 6-1 win over MDI. Scored two goals in 4-2 win over Ellsworth.

Other nominations

  • Gavin Coombs- Hermon- soccer- scored only goal in 1-0 win over MCI.
  • Stetson Nicholas – Central Aroostook – golf- Finished as the top medalist in the Aroostook league golf championship with a score of 85.  The senior will represent his school at the state competition on Saturday October 10 at Natanis Golf Course in Vassalboro Maine.
