PCHS boys basketball 2021 preview

January 13, 2021

The PCHS Pirates boys basketball team lost a lot from a team that went 8-10 last season. The Pirates always are dangerous as they have one of the best players in class C returning.

“We lost four of five senior starters last year, an important team captain that helped teach and keep guys focused, and several seniors opted out of playing this year due to covid.  We are a much smaller team than ever before,”PCHS coach Alden Gregory said. “Kobe Gilbert looks to put together an All Star caliber season for his final year at PCHS.  The shortened season diminishes his chances at 1000 points but it is still a possibility.”

Matt Robinson and Chris Easler will join Gilbert as seniors on the Pirates roster. Gregory will be looking to some newcomers to step up.

“Scott Chadbourne is a freshman that will likely be thrust into a starting role at times.  Several other junior will be stepping up to play minutes at the varsity level this year including juniors Buddy Hutchins, Matt Chadbourne and Alex Lyon,”Gregory said. “The pandemic has been hard on all of us.  It’s tough to run hard while breathing in your mask.  In addition, not having summer ball and a regular basketball playing routine left us feeling behind and forgetting many of the things we have learned in the past as well as taking away from overall skill sets.  It was like hitting the reset button on our basketball education.  The harshest impact has been the players that did not feel comfortable playing this year that we lost, including several seniors that would have held starting roles.  We will be short handed because of it.  The bright side is that that leaves opportunities for younger guys to step up.”
