Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. If you want to sponsor the female or male athlete of the week email Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. Use that same email to send your nominations in during the week. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 326 past athlete of the week winners.
This week, we had seven Rowell’s Garage male athlete of the week nominationn. Jason Bartlett from Belfast edged out Will Kusnierz (Dexter) and Kobe Gilbert (PCHS) to earn his first athlete of the week honor. Bartlett averaged 29 points leading the Lions to two wins. Bartlett joins Emery Dinsmore (5-18-14), Madison Littlefield (11-2-14), Kylie Nelson (2) (10-23-16), and Morgan Fernald (2) (2-4-17) as student/athletes from Belfast high school that have been named athlete of the week.
Male athlete of the week January 15th-January 23rd
Jason Bartlett- Belfast – basketball- had. 28 points on 13-16 shooting in 86-54 win over Searsport. Had 30 points, playing only 3 quarters in 82-60 win over Bucksport.
Runner up
- Will Kusnierz- Dexter – basketball- recorded 16 points, six rebounds, and two assists in 51-47 win over PCHS. Had 35 points and 18 rebounds in 64-31 win over Central.
Other nominations
- Zach Needham- Orono/Old Town- hockey- scored two goals and had one assist in 4-1 win over Hampden. Had two goals and one assist in 6-1 win over John Bapst.
- Kobe Gilbert- PCHS- basketball-recorded 31 points (17 in fourth quarter), 14 rebounds, four steals, and two assists in 51-47 loss to Dexter.
- Myles Brown- Deer Isle-Stonington- basketball- had 29 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, two steals, and one block in 58-50 win over Bucksport.
- Josh Dahl, Malachi Fitzherbert, Zaylen Johnston, Cody McCrum, Stetson Nicholas and Josh Thomas:l- Central Aroostook Varsity Basketball Seniors. PTS: 0, FGA: 0, FGM: 0, FT%: 0, Playing time: 0 min., Gym Time: 0 min., Commitment Level: 100%.
- Caleb Solomon- Houlton- basketball- recorded 22 points, 17 rebounds, three steals, and two assists in 82-70 win over Southern Aroostook.
