Kobe Gilbert earns ninth athlete of the week

Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. If you want to sponsor the female or male athlete of the week email Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. Use that same email to send your nominations in during the week. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 330 past athlete of the week winners.

This week, we had seven Rowell’s Garage male athlete of the week nominationn. Kobe Gilbert (PCHS) averaged 23.7 and 12 rebounds in three games to edge out Robbie Dorman (Dexter) and Simon Allen (Central) and earn his ninth athlete of the week honor. Gilbert joins Kolleen Bouchard (19) (Houlton), Leine McKechnie (13) (PVHS), Peyton Grant (10) (Dexter), Lexi Ireland (9) (PVHS), Taylor Schildroth (9) (George Stevens), Justin Thompson (9) (Schenck), and his older brother Bryce Gilbert (9) (PCHS) as student/athletes that have won athlete of the week at least nine times.

Male athlete of the week March 1st-March 6th




  • Kobe Gilbert- PCHS – basketball- had 30 points and 14 rebounds in three quarters in 72-31 win over Greenville. Had 27 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and three steals in 58-45 loss to Dexter. Had 14 points in 66-42 loss to Penquis.

Runner up

  • Robbie Dorman- Dexter- basketball- recorded 18 points, 11 rebounds, four blocks, and two assists in 63-48 win over Central in Penquis league championship game. Had 21 points, seven rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one block in 58-45 win over PCHS.

Other nominations

  • Timur Sabic- MCI- basketball- recorded  27 points, nine rebounds, and six assists in 49-39 win over Erskine.
  • Simon Allen- Central- had 15 points and seven rebounds in 44-38 win over Penquis. Scored 30 points (9-10 FT) and pulled down eight rebounds in 63-48 loss to Dexter in Penquis league championship game.
  • Brett Kusnierz- Dexter – basketball- had 19 points, eight rebounds, and two assists in 63-48 win over Central in Penquis league championship game.
  • Matt Parent- Messalonskee- basketball-  had 19 points and nine rebounds in 66-56 win over Cony.
  • Nathaniel Robinson – Jonesport-Beals- recorded 19 points, 13 rebounds, two assists, and one steal in 60-54 win over Machias.
