DEXTER— The Dexter Tigers softball team showed why they are the top seed on Wednesday afternoon. The Tigers scored four runs in the first inning and Avery Herrick took care of the rest in the circle as they took care of Fort Kent 13-1 in six innings in a Class C North quarterfinal contest.
Dexter followed up the four run first inning with three more in the second. Elizabeth Kinney had a hit and a run scored in each of the first two innings. Peyton Grant walked and scored in each of the first two innings.
Meanwhile in the circle, Herrick was taking care of business. Herrick didn’t allow a hit in the first five innings and the only base runner reached on an error.
Dexter scored in five of the six innings played. Grant reached base five times with two hits, three walks, four runs, and two RBI. Herrick, Kinney, Jasmine Lewis, Cheyenne Beem, and Hannah Dean each had two hits. Dean had three RBI, while Herrick, Lewis, and Jade Wintle had two RBI each.
Herrick allowed one run on two hits, she didn’t issue a walk and struck out 11. Dexter (13-2) will take a 12 game winning streak into a semifinal game when they will host Mattanawcook or Bucksport on Saturday.
Morgan Cyr had one hit and one RBI, while Vivian Drolet had one hit and one run scored for the Warriors. Fort Kent finishes the season 8-10. Full Broadcast
