Mount View High School 2022 softball preview

April 10, 2022

The Mount View softball team will have a trio of veteran players that first year coach Michael Savage will look to as leaders for the 2022 squad.

“We have 3 great Captains that hold everyone else accountable and want to move the program forward,” Savage said. “Recently selected Captains are: Senior Hannah Coolen, Senior Alexa Coffin & Junior Maddie Roux. They have been a huge asset since I arrived Day one for the kickoff meeting. Having a Reliable Pitcher – Catcher and Shortstop is a great feeling for a 1st Year Coach taking over. Hannah Coolen is known for her prowess on the basketball court, where she scored her 1,000th point this Winter, but she is also an amazing softball player as well.”

The Mustangs will look to improve each day. Mount View will be in Class C north. During the regular season, MCI is the only opponent from C North. The Mustangs play a heavy Class C south and Class B north schedule. The Mustangs are looking to improve from their four wins of 2021. With the difficult schedule, Mount View should be well prepared for late in the season and they hope into postseason play.

“I believe we can compete for a playoff spot and increase the win total,” Savage said. “We need to make the routine plays, get three outs and get back into the dugout. The will and desire to improve is there. The entire team has been working hard since day one of thrower’s week.”

The numbers and excitement for the Mustangs softball program are sky high heading into this season.

“Numbers in the program are up, we have up to four pitchers who can throw in a varsity game and a great core of returning players. I believe I have found a centerfielder and need to find two reliable corner infielders,” Savage said. “Like almost all Class C schools, depth can be a concern if someone is out, but we are going to take the entire preseason and Coach them up as much as possible. We currently have 23 on the roster and we have several JV Games scheduled as well. Things are looking up if they come to work each and every day.”

The Mustangs are scheduled to open the regular season with a doubleheader at Sacopee Valley on April 18th. The home opener is scheduled for April 30th when Traip Academy makes a trip north for a doubleheader.
