Central softball improves to 5-2 with win over Foxcroft Academy

DOVER-FOXCROFT— The Central Red Devils got production throughout their lineup and rolled to a 15-3 win over Foxcroft Academy on Wednesday afternoon.

The Red Devils took the lead when Chloe Daigle started the second inning with a walk, Lexi Whitty followed with a single. The duo converted a double steal, Daigle scored the first run of the game. The Ponies quickly responded in the bottom of the second inning when Sam Ossenfort hit a two out single and came around to score after two Red Devils errors.

Bayley Casavant retires side in first inning

Central got two run singles from Whitty and Alexyss Curtis in the third inning and added five more in the fourth inning as they sent 10 hitters up to bat powered by Sydney Gray getting two hits during the inning, including starting things off with a bunt single. Izzy Allen sent Gray home with a single. Britni Grant, Whitty, and Abbey Young each had one RBI in the inning as the Red Devils took a commanding 10-1 lead.

Lexi Whitty hits 2 run single for Central

While the offense was doing their thing, Bayley Casavant was a strike throwing machine in the circle. Casavant allowed three unearned runs on six hits. She struck out four and didn’t issue a walk.

Central took a 11-1 lead in the top of the fifth inning when with two outs, Daigle hit a single, Whitty reached on an error, and Young singled to load the bases. Daigle scored one of her four runs in the game when Curtis got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Foxcroft (3-4) put two on the scoreboard when Kaitlyn Lorde drilled a two run triple to score Aspen Perry and Leah Hill. Central scored four in the top of the sixth inning and closed out the game when Casavant retired the side in order in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Olivia Hill took the loss in the circle for the Ponies. Hill allowed 15 runs (four earned) on 11 hits, five walks, and struck out eight.

Daigle (4), Whitty (3), and Grant (3) combined to score 10 runs for the Red Devils. Allen, Whitty, Curtis, and Gray had two hits each. Whitty and Curtis each had three RBI. Central (5-2) has won four straight games.
