Samantha Goodwin earns female athlete of the week

Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations during the week to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the past athlete of the week winners.

This week we had five Rowell’s Garage female athlete of the week nominations. Samantha Goodwin (PCHS) edged out Ana Lang (Searsport) to earn athlete of the week honors. Goodwin had a big week for the Pirates track and softball teams. Goodwin joins Alex Speed (4) (10-25-14), Lindsey Morrill (10-20-11), Abby Burdin (4-29-12), Delani Bennett (2) (1-5-15), Erin Speed (3) (10-15-16), Bryce Gilbert (9) (2-11-18), Jordynne LIttlefield (6-13-16), Dillion Drew (10-23-17), Cameron Kane (5-6-18), Kobe Gilbert (9) (3-8-21), and Molly Sipple (2) (5-6-22) as student/athletes at PCHS that have earned athlete of the week honors.

May 15th-May 21st

  • Samantha Goodwin-  PCHS- track and softball- 3rd 400m- 1:08.72 Qualified for PVCs and provisionally for States. This is an improvement of 2.78 seconds since last week, and 5.95 seconds on the year.1st Javelin- 85-07 Qualified for States. Goodwin also plays 1B on the softball team. For this week’s games. She had a .batting average over .430 for the Pirates softball team and played a solid defense with 5 unassisted outs at first base. At a meet at Orono, Goodwin was 3rd in the 400m 1:10.11, 1st in Javelin 89-01 her best throw of the season. She is also 3rd leg on out 4×100 relay, who took 3rd with a season best  time of 57.29

Runner up

  • Ana Lang- Searsport- softball- struck out 16, allowed two earned runs, and didn’t issue a walk in 3-1 loss to Sumner. Pitched a two hitter with 19 strikeouts and no walks plus had three hits, including two doubles and three RBI in 9-2 win over George Stevens. Pitched a no hitter with 21 strikeouts plus reached base four times, including two hits in 2-0 win over Valley.

Other nominations

  • Danielle Masterson- Hampden-softball- pitched a one hitter with 19 strikeouts in 2-0 win over Bangor. Went 3-4 with two runs scored in 9-3 win over Hermon.
  • Saige Evans- Old Town- softball- had a cycle, three runs scored, and four RBI in 9-0 win over Foxcroft. Had four hits, including two doubles, four runs scored, and four RBI in 17-5 win over Foxcroft.
  • Lexi Whitty- Central – softball- Lexi Whitty had 4 four hits, including two doubles, a homer, and two runs scored in 14-12 loss to Stearns.
