June 6, 2022

The Boston Bruins announced on Monday that they have fired head coach Bruce Cassidy. Cassidy led Boston to a 51-26-5 record this past season, losing in seven games to the Carolina Hurricanes in the first round of the NHL Playoffs.

Cassidy was named an assistant coach for Boston on May 24, 2016 for the 2016-17 season. On February 7, 2017 he was named the interim head coach after the club fired Claude Julien. In his first full season as the head coach, he led the Bruins to a 50-20-12 regular season beating Toronto in the first round of the playoffs before falling in the second round to Tampa Bay. Cassidy led Boston to the Stanley Cup Finals in the 2018-19 season, where they were defeated by St. Louis in seven games. In a shortened year of 2019-20, he coached the B’s to a 44-14-12 mark where they captured the Presidents Trophy for the third time in franchise history. That season they fell to Tampa Bay again in the second round of the postseason, but Cassidy was named the winner of the Jack Adams Award given to the best coach annually.

Cassidy ends his tenure with Boston with a final head coaching record of 245-108-46, a .614 win percentage.
