Caleb Shaw made a jump shot with 0.7 seconds remaining to give the Central Red Devils boys basketball team a 55-54 win at Orono on Friday night.
Shaw also made two free throws with less than 30 seconds remaining to bring the Red Devils within one (54-53). Jake Koffman missed a front end of a one and one from the free throw line. That set up the dramatics from Shaw.
Shaw scored nine of his game high 19 points in the fourth quarter, including going 4-4 from the free throw line. Shaw also scored eight points (2-2 FT) in the first quarter. The Red Devils scored 19 points in the first and fourth quarter.
Nate Desisto scored 10 of his team high 18 points in the first quarter for the Red Riots. Orono held a 24-19 lead after the first quarter, a 32-24 halftime lead, and a 42-36 advantage after the third quarter.
Shaw and Dylan Gray combined for 17 of the 19 Red Devils fourth quarter points to spark the comeback. Gray finished with 16 points, including 4 three pointers. Ethan Mailman added 11 points, while Andrew Speed and James Doucette put in four points each, Dylan Ham put in one free throw. Central (3-1) will host John Bapst on Tuesday. Connor Robertson finished with 11 points, Koffman scored eight, Keenan Collett added seven (five in the fourth quarter), Jackson Coutts put in four points, Jonny Spencer made a three pointer, while Jonathan Steelman and Colin Moran rounded out the scoring for the Red Riots with two points each. Orono (3-2) will host Foxcroft on Tuesday night.
