Central Aroostook overcomes record breaking performance from Dolley to get quarterfinal win

BANGOR- On a day where Tate Dolley broke a class D record with 17 free throws made in a game, it was clutch free throw shooting from Karli Levesque that secured a Central Aroostook 45-44 Maine Principals’ Association class D quarterfinal victory over Machias on Monday afternoon.

Central Aroostook held a 24-19 halftime lead thanks to eight second quarter points from Ashlee Harris. Dolley took over in the second half to keep the Bulldogs in the game, and even take the lead on two separate occassions in the fourth quarter.

Dolley recorded 33 points (including 20 in the second half), 17 rebounds, and four blocks. She went 17-17 from the free throw line. The 17 free throws broke the class D tournament record, it was previously set by Amanda Hotham from Fort Fairfield in 2010. She tied Colleen Huff from Greenville (1981) for the overall record.

Karly Levesque made three free throws, while Harris made two down the stretch to secure the victory for the Panthers. Harris recorded 16 points, four rebounds, three steals, and two assists to lead the way for Central Aroostook. Kassidy Levesque added seven points, while Karli Levesque and Caitlin Harris had six points each. Karli Levesque also pulled down 10 rebounds. Central Aroostook (13-6) will play a semifinal game on Thursday afternoon.

Machias out-rebounded Central Aroostook 43-21. Machias committed 26 turnovers, while Central Aroostook had 15. The Bulldogs finish the season with a 10-9 record.
