CORINTH- The Central Red Devils girls basketball team is playing their best basketball at just the right time. The Red Devils outscored Caribou 40-16 after the first quarter to earn a 54-29 victory on Saturday afternoon.
Sydney Allen and Libby Cook scored four points each in the first quarter for the Red Devils, Madison Doucette and Jenna Boucher scored five points each in the quarter for the Vikings, including a Doucette three pointer just before the end of the quarter. The Red Devils held a 14-13 lead after the first eight minutes of play.
Allen scored six points in the second quarter as Central outscored Caribou 17-6. The Red Devils turned up the defense, allowing only 10 points in the second half.
Allen finished with 18 points, seven steals, and four assists. Emma Campbell recorded 12 points, 10 rebounds, and five steals, while Cook added eight points and four blocks.
The win is the fourth straight for Central (9-8). They have put themselves in position where they could earn a home preliminary round game. The Red Devils finish the regular season at Foxcroft Academy on Wednesday night.
Sierra Herbert scored nine points to lead the Vikings, Boucher added eight points. Caribou (3-13) will finish the regular season with a game at Fort Kent and a home game against Presque Isle.
