Dexter dominates in quarterfinal win to set up semifinal clash with Boothbay

DEXTER— The bell rang for the tournament on Wednesday afternoon for the Dexter Tigers field hockey team. 

A senior and a freshman were right there to answer the call for the Tigers. Senior Hayley Rossman recorded a hat trick, including two in the first half as Dexter defeated Orono 7-0 in a Maine Principals’ Association class C quarterfinal game. Freshman Cheyenne Beem also recorded a hat trick and added one assist. 

The game was scoreless until Rossman put one in on an assist from Tory Asbury with 19:34 left in the first half.  Rossman added another one just three minutes later on an assist from Beem. The Tigers took a 3-0 halftime lead when Beem scored with 4:59 left in the half.

Dexter put the game away with four goals in the first 12 minutes of the second half. Kaitlyn Webber had one goal and two assists, Becca Batron had two assists, while Aubrey Godin added one assist. Amanda Haskell and Shawnee McNally combined to make two saves for the Tigers. Dexter (13-2) will host Boothbay in a semifinal game on Friday. The game is currently scheduled for 2:55 PM and can be heard live at Eastern Maine Sports. 

Rosin Rumsey recorded eight saves for the Red Riots. Orono finished the season with a 5-10 record.
