LINCOLN—- The Dexter Tigers scored 28 consecutive points and rolled to a 28-6 victory on Friday night over Mattanawcook Academy in a class D LTC football game.
The Lynx took a lead when quarterback Carter Ward scored on a one yard touchdown run with 4:40 remaining in the first quarter. That lead didn’t last long as the Tigers responded on their next drive. Chandler Perkins capped things with a touchdown run that evened the score at six.
Tyler Beem gave the Tigers a lead they wouldn’t give back when he scored on a five yard touchdown run with 11:08 remaining in the second quarter. Brayden Miller ran in the two point conversion to give Dexter a 14-6 lead.
The Lynx were putting together a nice drive late in the first half. That drive was abruptly stopped when Zach White intercepted a Ward pass and ran it 99 yards for a touchdown that gave the the Tigers a 20-6 halftime lead.
The Tigers defense forced four Lynx turnovers and came up with the big play each time they needed it. Dexter has allowed only six points in each of their first two games.
While the defense was doing their thing, it was the offense that sealed the victory when Miller connected with Jason Campbell for a 65 yard touchdown with 7:29 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Beem finished with 77 yards on 13 carries, Miller had 30 yards on eight carries and 89 yards on 3-6 passing, Dexter (2-0) with play Bucksport next week.
Ward rushed for 66 yards on 18 carries and threw for 77 yards, Matt Young finished with 65 yards on seven carries, while Hayden Weatherbee ran for 66 yards on 20 carries. Mattanawcook (1-1) will play at Mount View next week.
