Drew Dankert shoots Foxcroft into the tournament

DOVER-FOXCROFT-  The Foxcroft Academy boys basketball team needed a win in their regular season finale to have a chance to make the Maine Principals’ Association class B north tournament.

Drew Dankert made sure they got that win. Dankert made 10 three pointers, while only missing one. Dankert finished with 31 points to lead the Ponies to an 89-68 victory over Central on Thursday night. Dankert made 7 of his three pointers in the first half as the Ponies held a 38-34 halftime lead.

Hunter Smith scored 20 second half points as the Ponies scored 51 in the final 16 minutes. Smith left the game with an ankle injury in the fourth quarter.

Foxcroft (6-12) clinched a tournament spot when Skowhegan defeated Mt. View on Thursday night. The Ponies will travel to Caribou for a class B preliminary round game on Wednesday, February 10th. The winner of that game will face third seeded Washington Academy in a quarterfinal game on Friday, February 12th at the Cross Insurance Center.

Central (10-8) finished as the nine seed in class B and will travel to Belfast for a preliminary round game on Wednesday, February 10th.  The winner of that game will take on top seeded Old Town in a quarterfinal game at the Cross Insurance Center at 4:35 p.m. on Saturday, February 13th.

Hunter Smith scored 25 points for the Ponies, Max Santogola added 16 points. Dylan Harmon-Weeks scored eight points, while Hyatt Smith put in six points, Noah Allen scored two points, while Jeremy Richard added one free throw.

The Red Devils had four players finish in double figures. Andrew Prescott led the way with 22 points (including 15 in the second half), Caleb Shaw scored 14 points (2 three pointers), Grant Poulin added 12 points (3 three pointers), and Andrew Speed scored 10 points on 3 three pointers.  Dylan Gray and Trevor Macomber scored four points each, while Ethan Mailman chipped in with two points.
