BANGOR—- Iokepa Supnet led off the bottom of the first inning with a double and scored his team’s first run of the game. Supnet also pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless relief in lifting Central East Maui L.L., Wailuke, Hawaii to a 7-4 win over Dumfries, Virginia in a Senior League World Series game on Monday afternoon.
Wailuke will take on Bronco-Hermon on Tuesday night at 8 p.m. Dumfries will play in an elimination game at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
Dumfries took an early lead when Carson Arguin hit a single with one out in the first inning and came around to score when he stole home on a back-end of a double steal.
That lead didn’t last long as Wailuke took advantage of two errors to score three runs in the bottom of the first inning. They added another unearned run in the second inning.
“Any baseball game if you can capitalize on their mistakes, most of the time you come away with a W,”Wailuke manager Shane Awai said. “We were fortunate that it went our way because we made a lot of errors too.”
Logan Cabrera pitched the first 3.1 innings for Wailuke. Supnet came in and pitched 2.1 innings, allowing one hit, and striking out two.
“We work on our pitching, I have a lot of pitchers. Logan (Cabrera) is a slow delivery guy who has a heavy hand,”Awai said. “(Iokepa) Supnik has a quicker hand and can work that curveball real well. He hits his spots real well.”
