Highview Christian girls open with win

Bangor- Last season the Highview Christian Academy girls basketball team only won a single game. This season they have already matched their win total from last year after one game. Megan McDonald scored 14 points, had 6 rebounds and also 3 steals to the lead the Knights to a 50-33 opening night win over North Haven at the UMA-Bangor Fitness Center in a Class D South basketball matchup Friday evening.

HCA (1-0) also got 10 points and 7 rebounds from Cassidy Lessner and 9 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists from Cassidy Burns. Lessner and Burns are both transfer players from Central of East Corinth.

The Knights had a 8 point halftime lead but opened the game up in the third quarter outscoring the North Haven Hawks (0-1) 17-4 in the period. Highview had their biggest lead at 21 points as Burns threw up a prayer with 3 seconds left from half court. The shot was nothing but net as the buzzer sounded to make it 41-20.

North Haven was led by Mya Goodells 11 points and Maddie Hallowell also scored 10. The two teams will get together again Saturday morning at the Fitness Center at 8:30 a.m.
