Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations during the week to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 185 past athlete of the week winners.

This week, we had 11 Rowell’s Garage female athlete of the week nominations. Kate Saunders fired two no hitters to earn Roadrunner Taxi female athlete of the week honors. Saunders joins Mike Cummings (5-13-12),
Kacie Hurd (9-16-12),
Cassidy Adams – (2)- (5-19-13),
Carter DeRedin- (5-23-15),
Samantha Goode- (6-21-15), and
Riley MacLeod (12-26-15) as student/athletes from Bucksport high school that have been named athlete of the week.

Roadrunner Taxi female athlete of the week

Kate Saunders- Bucksport- softball- Pitched no hitter, while striking out 13, in a 14-0 win over Searsport. Pitched a no hitter, while striking out 15, in a 10-0 Win over Central.

Runner up

Kate Whitney- Ellsworth- softball- pitched complete game, striking out eight in 7-2 win over Foxcroft. Pitched four perfect innings in 26-1 win over Washington Academy.

Other nominations

Jessicca Girsa – Stearns- softball- had a single, double, and picked up the pitching win in 23-7 win over PVHS.

Peighton Ingersoll- Stearns – softball- had two singles and a double in 23-7 win over PVHS.

Audrey Dunstan- Stearns- softball a had two singles and a double in 23-7 win over PVHS.

Austin Leighton- Nokomis- softball- the sophomore hit a three run home run over the centerfield fence in 3-1 win over Morse.

Arianna McKinnon- PVHS- softball- pitched a five hitter and struck out five in 3-1 win over Schenck.

Delani Bennett- PCHS- softball- had three hits, including a double and home run in 7-5 win over Dexter.

Olivia Stevenson- George Stevens- softball- had four RBI in 6-3 win over Ellsworth.

Cassidy Lessner- Highview Christian – softball- the sophomore first baseman went 4-8 in two games with two singles, a double, a triple, three RBI and four runs scored in 12-6 win over Rangeley and a 9-8 loss to Valley of Bingham.

Kelli Kennedy – Narraguagus- softball- had a triple, double, and single with two RBI in 11-0 win over Shead.
