PCHS girls basketball rolls to prelim win over Woodland

GUILFORD- Jordynne Littlefield scored 20 points to lead the Piscataquis Community High School (PCHS) Pirates girls basketball team to a 63-35 class C north preliminary round victory over Woodland on Wednesday evening. PCHS (13-6) will take on third seeded Narraguagus in a quarterfinal contest at the Cross Insurance Center on Tuesday, February 16th at 9:35 a.m. It is the fourth straight season, the Pirates have reached at least the quarterfinal round of the tournament.

Littlefield scored six first quarter points to help the Pirates jump out to a 14-6 lead after the first eight minutes of play. Jennie Cox scored the first six points of the second quarter to help the Dragons cut the deficit to 14-12. PCHS took a timeout, and followed that by going on a 13-0 run. The Pirates lead didn’t get below 10 the rest of the game.The Pirates exploded for 25 points in the fourth quarter to put the game away.

Delani Bennett recorded 13 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists for the Pirates.  Erin Speed added 11 points, six steals, and five assists, Haylee Patterson chipped in with eight points, Alivia Hunt scored five points and pulled down six rebounds. Lexi Harris scored four points, while Bailey Lemieux made two free throws. Littlefield added three assists to go along with her 20 points.

Cox led the Dragons with 10 points, Shaye Beers added six points, Lauren Cook scored five points, Shawna Monk added four points,while Danielle Poole, Willow Newman, Sadie Smith, Faith Johnson, and Sara Boies put in two points each,  Wodland finishes the season with an 8-11 record.
