Pedroia does it all in leading Red Sox to fifth straight win

July 4, 2017

Dustin Pedroia had three hits and four RBI, but it is the defensive play he made in the ninth inning in a 7-5 Red Sox victory in 11 innings at Texas that everyone is talking about.

Mike Napoli hit a home run off Craig Kimbrel to even the score at five in the ninth inning.  Carlos Gomez followed with a slow grounder to third base, Deven Marrero sailed the throw past first, Dustin Pedroia backed up the play and made an outstanding diving play and threw Gomez out at first.

Andrew Benintendi came off the bench and hit a two run single to give the Red Sox the lead in the 11th inning. Heath Hembree earned the victory by pitching the final two innings, striking out three.

Pedroia made multiple great plays and got on base four times. Rick Porcello allowed three runs on three hits in 6.1 innings. He walked three and struck out three.  The Red Sox have now won five straight and seven of their last eight.
