Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations during the week to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 182 past athlete of the week winners.

This week, we had 11 Rowell’s Garage athlete of the week nominations.  Sydney Allen is the fifth student/athlete from Central high school to be named athlete of the week. She joins Max McHugh (5) (1-13-13), Andrew Speed (9-15-13), Jordn Smith (1-18-14), and Libby Cook (12-6-15).

Sydney Allen, Central – Track and Field- at a meet in Bucksport on Thursday, Sydney won 1st place in both the 200m and 400m sprints, and finished 3rd in the 100m race. Central girls won the overall meet, their first team win of the season. Sydney has won 1st place in the 200m at three consecutive meets.

Runner up

Kate Whitney- Ellsworth- softball- pitched a complete game, three hitter, striking out 10 in 6-1 win over John Bapst. Pitched a four hitter and struck out four to help the Eagles knock off previously undefeated Old Town 6-5.

Other nominations

Jessicca Girsa – Stearns- softball- pitched a complete game five-hitter, striking out 7 in 8-3 win over PCHS. Pitched a one hitter, striking out nine in 14-0 win over Penquis. Pitched a two-hitter, striking out 6 in 13-1 win over Greenville.

Grace Farrington – Stearns- softball- had two singles and an RBI in 8-3 win over PCHS.

Emma Alley – Stearns- softball – had two singles and an RBI in 8-3 win over PCHS.

Lauren Jamo – Stearns-softball- hit a Solo Home Run in 8-3 win over PCHS. Had a double and three RBI’s in 13-1 win over Greenville.

Audrey Dunstan- Stearns- softball-hit a Solo Home Run in 8-3 win over PCHS. Had two doubles in 13-1 win over Greenville. Had a single and double in 14-0 win over Greenville.

Maci Leali- Nokomis- softball- had two hits in 8-6 win over Belfast.

Arianna McKinnon- PVHS- softball- pitched a complete game six hitter with six strikeouts in 6-3 win over Schenck.

Liz Pullen- Winslow- softball- had three hits, including a home run and three RBI in 12-6 win over MCI. Had two hits and one RBI in 10-1 win over Lincoln Academy,

Cassidy McLeod – Stearns- softball- hit a 2-run home run and a triple in 13-1 win over Greenville. Had two singles in 14-0 win over Penquis.
