Bangor- Kennedy Edwards knocked down four 3 pointers on his way to a team high 21 points on Wednesday night, leading the Army Black Knights past the Maine Black Bears 84-71, in a men’s college basketball game played at the Cross Insurance Center.
Army, now 6-2, shot red hot from the floor in the first half of action. The Knights shot 51 percent (20-39) from the floor and also 8-17 from behind the arc to build a 50-29 halftime lead. Maine committed 12 turnovers in the opening 20 minutes, leading to 19 Army points.
Maine, which falls to 2-4, were lead by freshman Devine Eke, who poured in a game high 29 points and also hauled in 16 rebounds. Kevin Little also chipped in 16 points to go along with five rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Freshman walk on guard Ryan Bernstein had 11.
Kyle Wilson also had 17 points for Army while Tanner Plomb had 13. Army ended the game shooting 43 percent that included 12 three pointers to post the win.
Maine would make a late 14-2 run in the second half with four minutes to play to cut the lead down to 11 points but were not able to get any closer in search of their third straight win.
Maine now faces a tough road test as they head to Marquette for a matchup with the Golden Eagles on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
