Hanover, NH- Mikaela Gustafsson scored a career high 18 points Sunday afternoon leading the Maine Black Bears women’s basketball team to a 59-41 victory over the Dartmouth Big Green at Leede Arena.
Maine held Dartmouth without a field goal in the opening quarter and held a 9-3 advantage after the opening ten minutes. The Bears built their lead including a 10-0 run in the second quarter and held a 26-12 halftime lead.
Dartmouth was resilient and wouldn’t go away as the Big Green outscored Maine 21-12 in the third to cut the lead down to 5 headed to the final quarter.
Maine would put the game away in the final period though outscoring Dartmouth 21-8 to secure the 18 point road win.
Sigi Koizar also had 15 points 4 rebounds and 3 assists and Bella Swan had 8 points to go along with 9 rebounds as Maine improved their record to 7-4 on the season. The Bears also knocked down 6-15 from three point range on the afternoon.
Dartmouth, who drops to 1-7, Lakin Roland had a game high 19 points and 9 rebounds.
Maine returns to action next Saturday, December 12th when they host Bryant at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor. Tipoff scheduled for 1 p.m.
