Bangor- The Highview Christian girls basketball team got 13 points and 9 rebounds from Cassidy Lessner and also 11 points and 12 rebounds from Kelsea McDonald, leading the Knights over the Jonesport-Beals Royalettes in Class D South action 35-24 at the UMA-Bangor campus Fitness Center.
The two teams started slow in more of a feeling it out process as the Knights held a 6-3 lead after the opening period. HCA (3-1) would open that lead to 9 points at halftime and eventually extending that to an 11 point lead halfway through the third quarter.
Jonesport-Beals would heat it up from the floor led by Jadah Alley. Alley would get the Royalettes (0-2) within 3 points late in the third but Highview eventually pushed the lead back to 6 after three and back into double figures in the final quarter to hang on for the win.
Alley finished with 10 points for the Royalettes while Reanna Smith chipped in with 6.
Highview Christian returns to action Saturday at 11:30 a.m at Islesboro while Jonesport-Beals will step to play Class C Sumner on the road Saturday at 2:30 p.m
