Bangor- The Shead Tigers girls basketball team built a 16 point first half lead and then had to hold off a third quarter rally to defeat the Highview Christian Academy Knights 45-27 Saturday afternoon at the UMA-Bangor campus Fitness Center.
In a matchup in Class D, Shead from the North and HCA from the Southern Division, the Tigers got big games from Holly Preston and Cierra Seeley to improve to 4-2 on the season.
Some cold shooting in the third quarter by Shead and some Highview fullcourt pressure that forced some Tiger turnovers, cut a 15 point halftime lead down to just 6 by the end of the period.
Shead was able to outscore HCA 16-4 in the final quarter to pull away for the 18 point win. Preston finished with 19 points while Seeley had 13.
Highview Christian from Charleston fell to 4-3 with their second straight loss. The Knights were led by Cassidy Lessner with 12 points and Megan McDonald who had 9.
Shead returns to action Tuesday evening as they travel to Hodgdon for a 7 p.m. tipoff. Highview is now on Christmas Break and will play again Tuesday, January 4th as they host Islesboro at 6:30 p.m.
