Blaine Byron (pictured above) will try to help Maine get back to their winning ways when it hosts a non-conference series against Colgate in Orono this weekend
Well I have finally hit double digit losses for the season after a subpar .500 record of 2-2 last week. This week we feature a non-conference series involving the Maine Black Bears, a big Hockey East showdown and a great matchup in the ECAC.
Last week 2-2 Season record 29-11-8

This week’s games
Friday, January 8th
Colgate (5-13-1) at Maine (4-11-1)
The Black Bears and Red Raiders get together for a non-conference matchup at the Alfond. Colgate is coming off two losses in the Governors Cup to Brown and Vermont and have given up an average of almost 5 goals a game this season. Maine, after winning 4 straight over Vermont and Princeton is now winless in their last 4 with a tie and 3 losses against rival New Hampshire.
The pick- This one is a tossup as neither team is playing very good hockey. Maine has played alot better at home of late so we will go with the Bears in night number one. Maine 3, Colgate 2
#3 Providence (13-2-3, 4-0-2 Hockey East) at #7 Boston College (13-4-1, 6-1-1 Hockey East)
The Friars come into this huge Hockey East showdown having lost 2 of their last 3 after being unbeaten in their first 15 contests. Their lone win came over BC 2-1 in the consolation of the Florida College Classic but losses to Cornell and Sunday at Brown has them reeling a little. I can’t imagine either team sweeping this series as both are too good to let that happen.
The pick- I will go with team that has played better of late and that’s the Eagles. Expect a very tough physical series that chances are will end in a split. BC 4, Providence 2
Saturday, January 9th
Colgate at Maine
The home fans will be hoping for a sweep but the lack of goal scoring has been a negative for the Bears all year and will hurt them again in this matchup.
The pick- Colgate escapes Orono with a split. Colgate 4, Maine 2
#5 Harvard (8-1-3, 4-1-3 ECAC) at #2 Quinnipiac (17-1-3, 8-0-2 ECAC)
A matchup of the two best teams so far in the ECAC square off at Madison Square Garden in New York. The Crimson of Harvard are coming off a championship in the Mariucci Classic in Minnesota by defeating Ferris State and the home town Gophers in overtime. The Bobcats are coming in with a tie at Northeastern Saturday.
The pick- I love the way Harvard has played and they have continued to surprise alot of people this season. They will do it again in this neutral site matchup. Harvard 3, Quinnipiac 2
