Big second half lifts Central boys basketball to third straight win

BANGOR— The Central Red Devils boys basketball team scored 32 second half point and rolled to a 51-38 victory over the John Bapst Crusaders at the Cross Insurance Center on Friday evening.

John Bapst held a 6-5 lead after the first quarter. Caleb Shaw and Ethan Mailman scored five points each in the second quarter as the Red Devils held a 19-14 halftime lead.

Trevor Macomber dominated the third quarter, scoring eight points as the Red Devils built the lead to 33-26 heading to the fourth quarter. A total of six different Central players scored in the fourth quarter as they outscored John Bapst 18-12.

Shaw led the Red Devils with 14 points and six rebounds. Macomber added 10 points, and Mailman put in nine points. Dylan Gray came off the bench to score six points, including a big three pointer in the third quarter.

Andrew Prescott scored five points, while Andrew Speed and Grant Poulin added three points each, Quinn Clukey added one free throw for the Red Devils. Central (6-5) will host Foxcroft Academy on Tuesday night.

Alex Mooney led the Crusaders with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Spencer Baron added eight points (six in the first half. Nate Smith chipped in with five points. Including one three pointer. Noah Tomah and Zach Lakeman put in four points each, while Nate Galinski and Nick Lakeman each scored two points. J.J. Higgins and Harrison Dieuveuil put in one point each. John Bapst (3-7) will try and snap a seven game losing streak when they travel to MDI on Monday.
