The Husson University men’s and women’s basketball teams both faced in state rivals Tuesday night as the men were home to face Colby while the women visited Bowdoin.
BANGOR- Trevon Butler had a game high 33 points and Raheeem Anderson also had 22 as the Husson men’s basketball team blew an 11 point halftime lead but was able to get by the visiting Colby White Mules 92-89 in overtime at Newman Gymnasium.
The Eagles built a 41-30 lead at halftime but the Mules were able to rally late to force the extra session as Patrick Stewart nailed a three pointer with 21 seconds left to tie it at 80. Butler also had 5 rebounds to go along with his game high in points while Anderson also had 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Zach Curran added 10 points and 3 boards.
Colby, now 12-6, had a very balanced scoring effort as four starters scored in double figures. Stewart led the way with 21 points, Sam Willson had 18, Chris Hudnut had 16 while Ryan Jann had 15 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists.
Husson, now 12-4, returns to conference action on Friday night at 7:30 on the road at New England College.
BRUNSWICK- The Husson Eagles women’s basketball team shot only 27 percent from the floor and committed 20 turnovers Tuesday night as the Bowdoin Polar Bears rolled to a 94-49 victory to end the Eagles 7 game win streak at Morrell Gymnasium.
Husson faced an early deficit trailing by 12 at the end of the first period and 23 at halftime and never got back into the game in a game that the Eagles never led. Bowdoin outscored Husson 27-9 in the third quarter to go up by 41 and put an exclamation point to the victory.
Bowdoin, who improves to 13-5, shot 44 percent from the floor and knocked down 12 three pointers compared to only 4 for Husson. The Polar Bears also connected on all 18 free throw attempts on the evening. Bowdoin converted 25 points off the Husson turnovers and outrebounded the Eagles 52-31.
The Polar Bears were led by Shannon Brady who had 16 points and 8 rebounds. Lauren Petit also had 15 and Aly Silfen had 13.
Kenzie Worcester led the way with 13 points and 6 rebounds for Husson (12-4). Angela McIntyre also chipped in with 8 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists.
Husson returns to NAC action on Friday at 5:30 p.m. at New England College. Bowdoin also returns to conference play in the NESCAC as they travel to play Colby Saturday at 3 p.m.
