Celtics are red hot going into Friday night matchup against Cavs

Boston Celtics

The Boston Celtics will play at Cleveland in a preview of the Eastern Conference finals on Friday evening. OK, maybe I am getting carried away. Tyrone Lue may not be able to lead a team that far. On a serious not, everyone knows the Cavs are the clear favorite in the Eastern Conference, they are where the other teams in the east, including the Celtics want to be.

It may be too soon to be talking Eastern Conference finals for the Celtics, but if you take a look at the standings, that talk may not be that far away. The Celtics defeated the Pistons 102-95 on Wednesday night for their seventh win in eight games, including third in a row.

The Celtics are now 29-22 overall and tied with the  Atlanta Hawks with the third best record in the Eastern Conference. The Toronto Raptors are five games ahead of the Celtics and Hawks, while the Cavaliers are at the top of the East.  Friday night, in the big scheme of things is just another regular season game in early February. For this Celtics team, a win could mean much more, as they get to see where they stand on the road against the best team in the conference, Things look really good for the Celtics in the standings right now, but a bad stretch could change things drastically.   They are currently only 4 games ahead of the Charlotte Hornets, who is in ninth place and on the outside of the playoffs. The Celtics will host Sacremento on Super Bowl Sunday, before playing at Milwaukee and hosting the Clippers before all star weekend. Isaiah Thomas will represent the Celtics at the all star game in Toronto on February 14th. Cleveland is coming off a 106-97 loss at Charlotte.
