Well for the first time since I can’t remember when I did finish below the .500 mark last week. But that shouldn’t bother the Maine fans cause I picked against the Black Bears in both games at UMass last weekend. This weekend Maine hosts a national power and defending national champion in more league play and the Beanpot wraps up as I will pick both the consolation and championship game of that tournament Monday in Boston.
Last week’s record 1-3-0 Season record 38-16-10
Last week’s games:
Friday, January 29th
Maine 5, UMass 2 incorrect pick
Saturday, January 30th
Maine 5, UMass 4 incorrect pick
Monday, February 1
Boston College 3, Harvard 2 correct pick
Boston University 3, Northeastern 1 incorrect pick
This week’s games:
Friday, February 5th
#6 Providence (17-5-4, 8-3-3 Hockey East) at Maine (7-15-6, 4-8-2 Hockey East)
The defending national champion Friars come calling to the Alfond for a weekend series. Providence has come back down to earth a bit since the start of 2016 playing right around .500 hockey including a split with UNH last weekend. Maine comes in with alot of momentum after sweeping UMass on the road last weekend. The Bears haven’t beaten Providence since October 2011.
The pick- I see a very spirited effort by Maine being back in their own building after a road sweep. I am picking Maine in an upset in the series opener. Maine 3, Providence 2
Saturday, February 6th
Providence at Maine
Maine comes in seeking a series sweep but I cannot see them doing that to a team as good as Providence.
The pick- The Maine 3 game winning streak ends. Providence 4, Maine 1
Monday, February 8th
#7 Harvard (12-5-3) vs Northeastern (9-13-4)
In the Beanpot consolation game both teams will battle for a third place finish. Harvard has 3 games in 4 days as they play at Brown Friday and at #11 Yale Saturday. Northeastern had their 8 game unbeaten streak snapped in the Beanpot opening round against Boston University. The Huskies play at #8 UMass-Lowell Friday.
The pick- Still love the way the Huskies are playing, been one of the hotter teams of late and 3 games in 4 nights proves to be too much for the Crimson. Northeastern 3, Harvard 2
#4 Boston College (18-4-4) vs #9 Boston University (15-7-4)
The battle of the two schools from Commonwealth Avenue decides the Beanpot championship once again. Both teams do play a game Friday night prior as well as BC hosts UNH and BU plays at UMass.
The pick- Boston College seems like the logical pick as they have played more consistent hockey but I am actually gonna go the other way and take the Terriers to pull it off. Just a hunch. Boston University 2, Boston College 1
