BANGOR– The Shead Tigers girls basketball team got by Deer Isle-Stonington 34-22, and five time defending class D state champion Washburn held off Katahdin for a 67-62 victory on Saturday evening.
The other six quarterfinal games in class D will be played on Monday. The boys will have the morning session. Southern Aroostook (14-4) and Central Aroostook (10-8) will get things started at 9:35. Southern Aroostook won the two regular season games by an average of 33.5 points.
Machias and Shead will play in the final game of the morning season. Machias (16-2) won all three regular season games against Shead (12-7) by an average of 26 points.
The final two class D girls quarterfinal games will be played during the afternoon session. Central Aroostook (12-6) will play Machias (10-8) at 2:05, while top seeded Southern Aroostook (13-5) will take on Wisdom (9-10). Southern Aroostook has eight players on their roster, four eighth graders and four freshmen.
The night session will feature the final two class D boys quarterfinal games. Washburn (13-5) will take on Bangoe Christian (8-9) at 7:05 p.m. The day will end with top seeded Easton (16-2) taking in Wisdom (9-10).
