Sydney Brewer comes through in overtime to lead Southern Aroostook girls to quarterfinal win

BANGOR- The roster says they are eighth and ninth graders. The standings say they are number one in class D. The Southern Aroostook Warriors played like a veteran team, when they defeated grabbed a 38-32 overtime win over Wisdom in a Maine Principals’ Association class D quarterfinal game at the Cross Insurance Center on Monday afternoon.

The Warriors jumped out to a 13-4 lead after the first quarter. Wisdom evened the score when they scored the first nine points of the second quarter. Southern Aroostook held a 19-15 halftime lead.

The Warriors held a 26-18 lead at the end of the third quarter. Rhylee Wright took over in the fourth quarter. She scored eight of her game high 17 points in the fourth quarter, including the last two baskets to send the game to overtime.

Freshman Sydney Brewer scored nine of her team high 15 points in overtime to lead the top seeded Warriors to the victory. Brewer also pulled down nine rebounds. Katelyn Slauenwhite scored 11 points, including 3 three pointers. Southern Aroostook (14-5) will play Central Aroostook in a semifinal game on Thursday afternoon.

Wright recorded 24 rebounds, four steals, and three blocks for the Pioneers. Bailey Bellefleur recorded 10 points, four steals, and three rebounds. Wisdom finishes the regular season with a 9-11 record.
