BANGOR- The George Stevens Academy boys basketball team put four players in double figures as they rolled to a 73-28 victory in a Maine Principals’ Association Class C North quarterfinal game over the eighth seeded Warriors from Fort Kent on Tuesday afternoon.
Jarrod Chase and Taylor Schildroth combined for 17 first quarter points as the Eagles were off and running taking a 22-7 lead after the opening period. GSA, now 18-1, extended that lead to 31 at halftime as Stefan Simmons and Max Mattson teamed up for 16 points in the second.
Mattson continued his dominant play scoring 10 more in the third quarter as the Eagles uptempo play and size was too much for the Warriors. GSA led by 43 at the end of three and led by as many as 47 points in the fourth quarter to claim the victory. Mattson finished with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Schildroth had 17 points and 5 rebounds. Chase had 13 points, while Nick Szwez also had 12.
For Fort Kent, who finishes 12-8, Ryan Chasse led the way with nine points. Brandon Theriault, Micah Charette and Jacob Daigle had four points a piece.
GSA now will play the fifth seeded Schenck Wolverines, who opened up the afternoon session with an overtime win over Lee Academy, on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. in the Class C North semifinals.
