The Husson University Eagles softball team started their season with two games at Kissimmee, Florida on Sunday morning.
Husson scored two runs in the fifth inning in their first game. They held off Mount St. Joseph for a 2-1 win. The two runs for the Eagles came off a bases loaded walk from Cases Lopes and a steal of home by Allison Hill. Brianna Bires, Hill, and Sami Cyr each recorded a hit during the fifth inning.
Alannah Healy allowed three hits in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Healy and the Eagles were able to hold off Mount St. Joseph and earn a season opening win. Healy earned the victory in the circle. She allowed one run on six hits and two walks, while striking out five in the complete game effort.
Jazmyn Rohrer threw a no hitter to lift Westminster to an 8-0 victory over the Eagles in their second game of the season. Rohrer walked two and struck out 11 in the five inning victory.
Lopes and Mallory Conary were the only base runners for the Eagles. Courtney McIntyre took the loss in the circle for the Eagles. McIntyre allowed five runs in 3.2 innings. Olivia Maynard allowed three runs in 1.1 innings.
Husson (1-1) will continue their Florida trip with 10 more games at Kissimmee, including a game against Simpson on Monday morning and a contest against Defiance on Monday afternoon.
