BANGOR, Maine – The Maine McDonald’s® Owner/Operators Association tonight announced the recipients of the 2016 Maine All-State Academic Scholarships. Emma Harrington of Morse High School and Jamison Rhoads-Doyle of Brewer High School each received a $2,000 scholarship award at the Maine Association of Basketball Coaches (MABC) Awards Banquet at the Anah Shrine Hall in Bangor.
Harrington is in the top 10 of her class, a member of the National Honor Society, the Interact Club, the Journalism Club and volunteers as a Middle School mentor and at her local library. She has logged more than 65 hours of community service.
A four-year varsity starter at Morse, she has been the team captain for the past three years. The past season she led the team in scoring and rebounds and was second in steals. She was the recipient of the basketball Coaches Award during her career, and Harrington has also led her teams to success in field hockey, lacrosse and tennis. She plans to study psychology at Fordham University.
Rhoads-Doyle was a two-year starter and a senior captain for Brewer. Academically, he ranks in the top 10 of his class, and has participated in Dirigo Boys’ State and the Maine Youth Leadership Seminar.
He averaged four points and five rebounds as a senior, playing guard and forward while being a leader and a hard worker on the court and in the classroom. His college plans are undecided, but he has interest in studying political science or international relations.
The Maine All-State Academic Scholarship was created to recognize two members – one girl and one boy – selected from the Maine McDonald’s All-State Academic Team. The ten boys and ten girls selected to the All-State Academic Team were nominated by their coaches and were chosen to represent the more than 150 high schools in the state of Maine.
“Each member of the All-State Academic team is among the best and brightest student-athletes in the state,” noted Gary Eckmann, former Board President and Co-Founder of the Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Maine. “On behalf of all the Maine McDonald’s Owner/Operators, I’d like to commend Emma and Jamison as well as all the members of the All-State Academic Team for their commitment to academic excellence and dedication to school and community activities.”
