Binghamton goes extras to finish sweep over Maine

Orono- The University of Maine baseball team got a great pitching performance from Logan Fullmer on Sunday afternoon but the Black Bear defense committed two errors in the 12th inning that allowed Binghamton to take a 2-0 victory, sweeping the America East three game series at Mahaney Diamond.

Fullmer went nine innings allowing only three hits and no hits while striking out 10 and only waking two but would not figure into the decision.

The Bearcat starter Jake Wloczewski shut down the Maine offense allowing only two hits and no runs over seven innings. Maine was held to just two runs in the three games on the weekend as the Binghamton pitching staff had a 0.60 earned run average.

Binghamton received two walks, laid down two sacrifice bunts, both of which were thrown wide of first base for errors to get both of their runs without a hit.

John Arel (0-4) took the loss for Maine going three innings without allowing a hit, two unearned runs, two walks and four strikeouts.

Rob Hardy (1-2) earned the win in relief for Binghamton (7-14, 3-0) by allowing three hits in five innings and striking out three.

Caleb Kerbs had two hits for Maine while Jeremy Pena, Danny Casals and Colin Ridley had the other Black Bear hits on the day.

Maine has now lost six in a row and drops to 5-18 and 0-3 in America East. Maine will next travel to Stony Brook to open up a three game conference series next Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at noon.
