The St Louis Blues had won five straight games and only allowed one goal during that stretch. The Boston Bruins had lost six of their last seven scoring only 10 goals. That all changed on Friday night as Boston got a huge two points on the road with a 6-5 win at the Scottrade Center.

Jaden Schwartz opened the scoring giving the Blues a 1-0 lead on a two on one break just over 14 minutes into the opening period. Boston bounced back though as Loui Eriksson scored just 41 seconds later to tie it 1-1 before David Krejci scored 1:50 later to give the Bruins a 2-1 lead after one.

Paul Statsny evened the game at 2-2 on a defensive breakdown by the Bruins 5:39 into the second. Matt Beleskey scored at 9:51 to give Boston the lead back at 3-2, before Frank Vatrano made it 4-2 and Krejci scored his second of the night on the powerplay, both goals in the last five minutes of the second to make it 5-2 Bruins.

The Blues wouldn’t go away quietly though as Robert Burtozzo and Alex Pietrangelo scored in the third period to cut the Bruins lead to 5-4 with still over 12 minutes left. Patrice Bergeron scored a powerplay goal with just 3:24 remaining to give Boston some breathing room at 6-4 before Kevin Shattenkirk cut it to 6-5 with just 21 seconds left. The Blues got a powerplay with 10 seconds left and with the goalie pulled they had a 6 on 4 advantage but the Blues weren’t able to get a shot on net as time expired.

Tuuka Rask made 25 saves to earn the win for the Bruins. Brian Elliott made 18 saves on 23 shots before being pulled after two periods for backup goalie Jake Allen. Allen made four saves on five shots in the final period.

St Louis goes to 46-23-9 on the season while Boston is now 41-29-8. The Bruins remain one point ahead of the Detroit Red Wings in the Atlantic Division for third place. St Louis will travel to Colorado Sunday for an 8 p.m. game with the Avalanche while Boston travels to Chicago to face off with the Blackhawks Sunday at 12:30.
