The MCI Huskies have had success on the football and field hockey fields in the past year. That has created positivity for all the teams at the school.

“Numerous teams have experienced success the past few years at MCI, which can most notably seen by the back-to-back Regional Final Championships in football and a State Championship in field hockey,”MCI baseball coach Eric Day said. “While the baseball team doesn’t realistically expect a championship, the success of other sports has been contagious, and has definitely brought a new positive and winning mentality to our team. While the record may not have indicated it, the baseball team took a major step forward in being competitive in the always tough KVAC last year (half of our games were decided by only one run). Our players are now determined to take the next step, and compete for a playoff spot, and their work ethic has reflected that in the first few weeks of our preseason practices.”

MCI will look at their underclassmen to step up and help the Huskies compete for a tournament spot.

“While a new wave of players has contributed to positively changing the atmosphere around the baseball team, it’s also perhaps the biggest obstacle we have to overcome, with only two Seniors on this years team,”Day said. “Underclassmen will be looked upon to contribute this year, and many of them seem to be up to the challenge.”
