They will not all go like this, but it was a great way to get things started for the 2016 Boston Red Sox.
David Price pitched six solid innings, Mookie Betts hit a two run home run to get the scoring started, David Ortiz hit a home run in his final opening day, and the bullpen pitched three hitless innings in a 6-2 win over the Cleveland Indians at Cleveland on Tuesday afternoon.
Jackie Bradley hit a line drive single to start the third inning, Betts followed with a deep homer to left field. The Indians evened the score in the fourth inning. Price threw 33 pitches during the inning. Price did what an ace is supposed to do and bounced back to retire six out of seven hitters in his final two innings on the mound.
Brock Holt singled home a run and the Red Sox scored another on a Corey Kluber wild pitch during the sixth inning. The final two runs came on an Ortiz blast in the ninth inning.
Price was removed from the game after throwing 103 pitches in six innings. Price allowed two runs in five hits and two walks, while striking out 10 in his Red Sox debut.
The bullpen took over from that point. Junichi Tazawa struck out two in a scoreless seventh inning. Koji Uehara pitched a perfect eighth, while Craig Kimbrel struck out two in a scoreless ninth.
Betts, Ortiz, Holt, Hanley Ramirez, and Travis Shaw each had two hits for the Red Sox. Game two is set for 6 PM on Wednesday with Clay Buchholz and Carlos Carrasco the scheduled starting pitchers.
