Farrell pushes Price back just to make it a better show for the home opener

When the Red Sox/Indians game was postponed late Thursday afternoon, John Farrell quickly announced that Joe Kelly, Rick Porcello, and Steven Wright would pitch against the Blue Jays in the three game series starting Friday night in Toronto.

That means ace David Price will pitch the home opener against the Orioles on Monday afternoon.  Farrell said in spring training that he would take advantage of off days and rain puts to keep Price on schedule. This decision was based around the home opener, which is fine unless they find reasons to keep pushing Price back. The only reason Price should not pitch every fifth day is if there is not a game scheduled on his day to pitch.

None of us know what will happen in the American League East. The Orioles are 3-0 right now, but everyone expects the Blue Jays to be the team to beat in the division. The Red Sox missed an opportunity to pitch their ace twice against the Jays, just to make it a better show at the home opener.

The Red Sox will need Kelly and/or Porcello to step up this season. They will get their first opportunity against the best offense in the division. No worries about postponements this weekend, thanks to a roof covering the Rogers Centre.
