CORINTH– Nate DeSisto struck out eight in a complete effort to lead the Orono Red Riots to a 5-1 victory over Central on Saturday afternoon at Central high school.
Freshman Gage Poulin did an outstanding job on the mound for the Red Devils. Poulin struck out seven and only allowed three hits in his first high school pitching appearance.
The Red Riots took advantage of a hit batter and an error to get on board in the first inning. The scored remained the same until the fifth inning as Poulin and DeSisto matched each other on the hill.
In that fifth inning, the Red Riots took a two run advantage when Dennis Farnham doubled and came around to score on a Kam Hines single. The rally was cut short thanks to center fielder Grant Poulin throwing Hines out at second base. Central answered that run in the bottom of the fifth when Dakota Miller hit a run scoring single. The Red Riots put the game away with three runs in the seventh inning. DeSisto closed out the contest by retiring the side in order.
Ethan Mailman, Zach Randall, Andrew Speed, Caleb Shaw, Gage Poulin, Grant Poulin, and Michael Bruce recorded the hits for the Red Devils. Central (1-1) will travel to Bucksport on Wednesday.
Farnham had two hits for the Red Riots, while Connor Robertson and Hines had one hit each. Orono (1-2) will travel to George Stevens on Wednesday.
