Coming into Wednesday afternoon’s game at Orono, the Bucksport Bucks softball team had outscored their opponents 130-9 through 10 games. They shut out the opponents in five of their 10 games, including three straight. The only game closer than 11 runs was a 3-1 win at home against Orono on May 2nd.
The Red Riots defeated Bucksport 7-6 on Wednesday to win their fifth straight and improve to 8-4 overall. Orono moved all the way up to third in the Maine Principals’ Association class C heal point standings. They are 8-2 since losing their first two games of the season.
The Piscataquis Community High School (PCHS) Pirates also made a big jump in the class C softball standings. The Pirates needed a heal point worthy victory. That is exactly what they got when they traveled to Dexter and held on for a 7-5 win. Jordynne Littlefield and Delani Bennett hit back to back homers in the fourth inning to spark the victory. PCHS (5-7 ) is now fifth in the standings, moving up from 10th. The Pirates will have another huge heal point game when they host Dexter in the regular season finale on June 1st. The top 11 teams will qualify for the class C tournament, the top five advance to the quarterfinals. The teams seeded six through eight will host a preliminary round game. The current top 11 are as follows. 1. Narraguagus 2. Bucksport 3. Orono 4. Houlton 5. PCHS 6. Limestone 7. Mattanawcook 8. Dexter 9. George Stevens 10. Washington Academy 11. Calais.
