Grant Poulin leads hit parade in Red Devils win over Bangor Christian

BANGOR— On a day that 10 different Central baseball players had at least one hit, Grant Poulin had the biggest bat of them all. Poulin had five hits and five RBI to lead the Red Devils to a 16-4 victory over Bangor Christian on Friday afternoon.

Poulin said, “it (the baseball) looked like beach balls coming up there.”

Things started quickly for Central when Dakota Miller led off the top of the first inning with a single, Caleb Shaw drew a four pitch walk, Andrew Speed singled to load the bases. Ethan Mailman followed with a double to deep left field that scored Miller and Shaw.  Poulin followed with his first hit and first two RBI of the day.

“It was good to score early,”Poulin said. “It really helps settle the pitching and everyone down a little bit.”

Bangor Christian  responded with two runs in the bottom of the first inning, Josh Palmeter hit a sacrifice fly to score Dean Grass, while Jon Cormier hit a single to score Jack York.

Zach Randall settled down on the mound for the Red Devils, while the bats for Central were just getting started. They scored two in the third inning, sparked by run scoring hits from Poulin and Michael Kelly.

In the fourth inning, the Red Devils sent 10 hitters to the plate, with six of those coming across to score. Central sent nine hitters to the plate in the sixth inning, with four scoring as they ended the game with the mercy run rule after six innings.

Randall earned the victory, allowing two earned runs in four innings. Speed recorded two hits, three runs scored, and two stolen bases. Shaw, Mailman, and Gage Poulin scored two runs each. Miller, Shaw, Mailman, Kelly, Gage Poulin,Kaleb French, Austin Morency, and Gage Poulin bad one hit each. Central (7-6) will play at Hermon on Tuesday.

Grass allowed 10 runs in 3.1 innings to take the loss for the Patriots. Grass led the offense with two hits from the leadoff spot. Palmeter, Cormier, and Matthew Chretian each had one RBI. Bangor Christian (8-5) will play at Penobscot Valley high school on Thursday.
