CHARLESTON- The Vinalhaven/North Haven Vikings softball team swept a doubleheader with Highview Christian Saturday on senior day at the Charleston Recreational Field in Class D action.
In the opening game the Knights of Highview Christian took an early 5-2 lead after two innings. The Vikings would rally for two runs in the fifth and four runs in the sixth to take a 10-8 victory and breaking the Knights three game winning streak.
Hannah Ames and Deja Doughty both had RBI triples and Gillian Oakes also had an RBI double all in sixth inning to help Vinalhaven to the comeback win.
Michaela Hill had a pair of hits and a pair of RBI and Rachel Pomerleau had two hits and an RBI for Highview Christian.
Gillian Oakes picked up the win in the circle going seven innings and allowing nine hits, eight runs, seven earned, three walks and four strikeouts.
Kelsea McDonald suffered the loss going seven innings as well allowing nine hits, 10 runs, nine earned, four walks and nine strikeouts.
In the second game of the day the Vikings took a quick 6-0 lead after one inning and would cruise to a 12-0 mercy rule win in five innings.
Ames reached base all four times at the plate and scored three runs while Doughty reached three times and also scored three runs.
Vinalhaven took advantage of six walks in the contest while the Knights only managed two hits.
Oakes earned another win going five innings and only allowed two hits, no runs, one walk and one strikeout.
Cece Allard started the second game and was charged in the loss for HCA giving up five earned runs, one hit, four walks in just 1/3 of an inning pitched.
Allard had a double and Pomerleau a single for the two hits for Highview.
Vinalhaven finishes the regular season at 10-4, currently good for second place in the Class D South standings. Highview falls to 6-8 and is currently 10th in the Class D North standings with one more contest remaining on the road at Jonesport-Beals on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
