The Boston Red Sox pounded 21 hits in a 12-5 victory over the Texas Rangers on Monday afternoon at Fenway Park.
The Red Sox had four players with at least three hits, including a four hit effort from Sandy Leon. Brock Holt, Dustin Pedroia, Travis Shaw, and Mookie Betts each hit a home run.
Leon hit three doubles and is now hitting .500 (20-40) this season. Holt’s two run homer gave the Red Sox a 5-4 lead in the third inning. The Red Sox are now 24-8 with Holt the starting left fielder, including 3-0 since he returned from the concussion disabled list on Friday. The Red Sox are 21-29 in games that Holt has not started. For the second time since his return to the lineup, Holt threw out a runner at home plate.
Rick Porcello (10-2) gave up four runs (three earned) in the first inning. He shut the door on the heavy hitting Rangers after the rough start. Matt Barnes and Robbie Ross Jr pitched well out of the bullpen. Koji Uehara allowed a home run and only retired one batter, before Ross came in to bail him out.
Xander Bogaerts, Pedroia, and Travis Shaw recorded three hits each. The Red Sox will have David Price and Steven Wright pitching in the final two games of their series against the Rangers.
