Rick Porcello improves to 17-3

August 19, 2016

David Ortiz and Jackie Bradley Jr each hit a two run homer in the first inning at Comerica Park in Detroit on Friday night. That was plenty for Rick Porcello, who allowed only one earned in seven innings to lift the Boston Red Sox to a 10-2 win over the Tigers. Porcello (17-3) allowed four hits and two walks, while striking out eight against his former team.

Hanley Ramirez continued his hot hitting. He went 3-5 with four RBI. Ortiz, Dustin Pedroia, Xander Bogaerts, Sandy Leon, and Andrew Benintendi recorded two hits each.

The Red Sox moved within a half game of the first place Blue Jays in the American League East. The Blue Jays fell 3-2 to the Indians on back to back homers in the bottom of the ninth inning, including a walk off inside the park home run from Tyler Naquin.

The Red Sox and Tigers will continue their four game series on Saturday night at 7:10. Drew Pomeranz and Daniel Norris is the pitching matchup.
